Harvest - Exeter

Exeter Community Initiatives (ECI) is a charity that develops and runs community projects in order to improve the lives of people living in and around Exeter. In April 2010 ECI launched Harvest, a Big Lottery Local Food Fund project which will run until December 2012.

Harvest offers support and encouragement to people in Exeter who want to grow some of their own food through:

Incredible Edible MiniGardens: making creative use of limited space and using all kinds of containers to grow food;

Exeter Garden Match: linking people who want to grow
food to people with space;

Community Gardens: supporting people in the community to grow food together;

Regular events: celebrating growing, cooking, and eating
local food together.

To find out more about any of these activities and how you could get involved, please contact the Harvest team below.

We are looking for local people who want to help spread the growing bug in their community, and we are currently recruiting volunteer Growing Champions to undertake training in February 2011. If you would like to help inspire and support your neighbours to grow food at home, get in touch – you don’t need bags of experience, just enthusiasm for growing and sharing skills.

 We aim to:

  • Promote volunteering and community involvement
  • Promote healthy eating and exercise
  • Enable people to learn new skills and improve confidence
  • Reduce the cost of healthy food
  • Promote greater awareness of environmental issues
  • Reduce the environmental impact of producing food

This is a community-led project, and once established, it is hoped that community members will continue to run and develop the activities.
