Tiverton Community Garden

email

UPDATE NOVEMBER 2012: Unfortunately after 2.5 years, the group have taken the difficult decision to close Tiverton Community Garden due to lack of volunteers and the resignation of 3 key members of the committee.

Who we are

The landowner contacted Tiverton Town Council, who asked HogCO to attend a meeting to talk about community gardens. HogCO has since worked with the community and town council to negotiate the lease for a 2 acre site. The community group is growing and after lots of hard work on the land has enjoyed their first season of produce. The group would like to thank the rabbits for leaving them some of the produce!

June 2010

From Linda Long, Tiverton Community Gardens Steering Group

"I read with interest the article in the gazette (June 1st 2010)  regarding the appointment of two new councillors to the Tiverton Allotment Association, and the mention in the article of  the  new community garden scheme.  As a member of the steering group for Tiverton Community Gardens, I would like to express my gratitude to Sir Ian Amory and the town council for offering us a wonderful 2 acre site on which to develop our community garden  and acknowledge all the advice and support that has been offered. Tiverton Community Gardens is an organic garden project  started in April with currently around ten members.  We  have already ploughed one half of the site and have been busy planting and growing vegetables, fruits and herbs. We will  share all the produce grown  between our members  and we plan to sell any excess organic produce locally. Our vision is to create a sustainable, diverse and productive organic gardens in the heart of our community and we have plans to  keep  bees and produce and sell honey from our own bee hives. We also  hope to designate an area of the garden to support wildlife and to create  a child-friendly area. If anyone would like to learn more about gardening organically and wish to get involved in this exciting new project, please contact  John Lennon on 01884

All are welcome, whatever your level of gardening experience!"
