Highland Art Textiles (HAT) brings together the combined forces of The Highland Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers, The Highland Branch of the Embroiderers Guild, Highland Quilters, the Highland Lace Group and ourselves. Together we are working on creating a large wallhanging on the theme of Highland culture that will be our contribution to the Highland 2007 programme of events. There will be many different ways that people can become involved in the creation of this piece of community art. Already, spinners are busy spinning some of the cheviot fleece that has been donated. At the next Felters Group day, the project co-ordinator, Joan Baxter, will be managing a dyeing session at which we will dye some of the raw fleece and some of the fleece that has already been spun. We are also organising a textile art event comprising talks, workshops, exhibitions and opportunities to buy supplies and to meet with other textile enthusiasts.
