TANDEM CLUB SUPPORTING DISABLED PEOPLE

REGISTERED CHARITY SC007258

The Highland Blind Tandem Club was formed to create a leisure and recreation activity for blind, partially-sighted, and disabled people. The benefits of membership include being involved in a regular sports activity. Participation provides members with a means of exercise; access to the countryside; building relationships; acquiring skills and responsibility; and to be involved in an exciting sport.

The Club operates from April to September/October each year and members meet one evening per week to cycle during the season.  Members also have the opportunity to get together over a meal at least annually.  The Club has a pool of sighted trained pilots to operate the tandems and new members are encouraged to take along a friend/family member/colleague who could be trained as their pilot. Currently, subscriptions paid by members are restricted to £5 per member.

The Club is seeking to expand and recruit new members and as a registered Charity has joined the Just Text Giving promotion operated by Vodafone whereby members of the public can text HBTC13 donating the sum of either £2/£5/£10 to 70070.   The Club is also registered with AmazonSmile at smile.amazon.co.uk where Amazon customers select a charity to support.  Donations of 0.5% of net purchases made by our supporters are subsequently paid over to our Club.     The Club is wholly independent and relies on charitable donations to operate with Club officials providing their time voluntarily and 100% of all donated monies being used for Club activities.

The Club acknowledges the financial support provided by the Highland Council - Inverness Common Good Fund Grants  which has enabled the Club to purchase 2 new tandems and equipment. The Club also acknowledges support from the Nationwide Building Society who provided a Community Match Donation through the Charities Aid Foundation and from Macleod and MacCallum who provided a Mac and Mac Community Award.  In 2019, the Club also received a donation from Inverness Culloden Rotary Club.

After Covid restrictions were eased, Club members were able to return to cycling from April 2022 and are looking forward to our cycling season recommencing in April 2023.
