"Harpists for Peace" is an international movement for all harpists, harpers and harp lovers who care about world peace. It was founded by harpist and peace activist Alexis Aria.

In Spring 2009, the planning of a very exciting annual event began: a special day when harp players all over the world would play for one hour, in their own towns and cities, to promote world peace and help others reflect on the value of peace as our goal.

On July 19 2009, around 150 harp players worldwide took part in the first ever harpists' "Peace Hour".  At 2pm (local time), in an initiative that spanned six continents, harp players of all ages, cultures and traditions played their instruments across our planet almost continuously for 24 hours.

Locations varied from shopping malls to stately homes, from the front porch of a house to a yacht off the coast of Australia and a beach in Cornwall. There were harpists playing at Ground Zero and the Holocaust Monument in New York, and Parliament Square in London. All were united in their aim of offering an hour of reflection to all, and making positive strides towards world peace and harmony.

Go the the World Map to see at a glance where harpists played during Peace Hour 2009, and check out the photo galleries!

If you took part in the Peace Hour, please send your photos and video to the email address below. Video footage will be made into a collage and displayed on this site. All participating harp players will receive a copy as a wonderful memento of the event.

We would love to hear all your Peace Hour Stories, and also any press cuttings or publicity relating to the event so we can publish them on the site.

Please register to receive updates on our next project. We are currently planning Peace Hour 2010!
