Timetrial details
Grantown Swim Club usually has a couple of timetrials a year. With the pool being closed for a year in Grantown there are now more spaces available than usual in the swim club.
Swimmers who join the club usually do so at the development squad (who train on a Thursday 4-5pm) to refine their swim skills and learn more about diving and competitive turns. Some older swimmers or those who have previously trained with the club may go straight through to a different squad.
Squad details
Development squad – usually the starting squad to get used to swim training. Sessions are highly skill based.
Junior competition squad – train twice a week for 1.5 hours. The swimmers sessions are high on skill development and developing speed & stamina. All swimmers are in primary school. There is the opportunity to compete regularly.
Competition squad – this is for those who are committed to training for the hours recommended for their age & compete regularly. Most of these swimmers are also Highland Swim Team (National Squad) swimmers.
Senior squad – this is for high school swimmers. The sessions are fitness based with speed & skills development too. Some swimmers train 4 times a week and others just once.
The timetrial
An assessment is made on skills, stamina and speed. The skills are for frontcrawl and backstroke as well as usually some breaststroke. The speed distance depends on the age – primary school 2 lengths – high school over 5 lengths.
