Cath Moore, Head coach, at Grantown Swim Club was announced ‘Community Coach of the Year’ at the 2015 Highland Coaching Awards. The awards are run by High Life Highland in partnership with sportscotland to recognise the outstanding contribution and significant impact of local coaches in enabling quality sport and physical activity opportunities to happen in communities across the Highlands.
Cath founded the club in 1999, where it started with only 3 swimmers! Since then the club has grown from strength to strength, mainly due to Cath, and is now a competitive club and boasts a full team of 60 swimmers ages between 7 – 17 years old. Cath coaches on a voluntary basis up to 20 hours a week and is very committed to the club, she has seen the success it can create as she coached John Rutledge, GB Triathlon team athlete, and other very successfully athletes in the Badenoch and Strathspey area. Even though the club is small, Cath’s knowledge and dedication has overcome these boundaries as she has had National team swimmers in the club. Currently she has 4 swimmers in Highland Swim Team A squad and 2 swimmers have been selected into the District Regional Programme.
Cath continually keeps herself up to date, as a swimming coach and tutor, by attending workshops and training. Cath has recently been working on the Level 2 coaching qualification so she can upskill her coaching team. She has built up a strong coaching team, currently they have 12 coaches working for the club. Last year Cath was awarded Coach of the Year Award for Badenoch and Strathspey Sports Council 2014.
Cath was presented with her award at her club by Donald Hall, Community Sports Hub Officer and Dawn Horsburgh, Active Schools Co-ordinator.
Grantown Swim Club Chairwoman, Shona Fraser was delighted that Head Coach, Cath Moore was selected as Highland Community Coach of the Year. She said: "Cath is more than a worthy winner of this award.
