Congratulations to Grantown Swim Club's very own Morag Macleod for winning Badenoch and Strathspey Sport Council's Coach of the Year Award.
Morag has assisted fellow coaches develop the Club for over 10 years. During this time her coaching skills have gone from strength to strength.
Swim coaching is an active and challenging role demanding clear communication skills and commitment which Morag shows in abundance. She has actively volunteered for the Highland Swim Team on a regular basis. This included attending an overseas summer swim camp to assist the Highland Swim Team Lead Coach train selected talented swimmers.
She has coached John Rutledge who is now in the Great British Triathlon team and other very successful athletes in the Badenoch and Strathspey area.
Grantown Swim Club has a revolving program of the senior children becoming coaches before they leave the club. They develop their leadership skills, gain valuable life experience and act as role models to the younger children. These young coaches are supported by Morag who helps them to develop their own coaching styles. She actively encourages senior swimmers to gain their Level 1 coaching awards.
Morag has dedicated her time during 2014 working through the demanding Level 3 coaching program. This prestigious coaching award will enable her to work as a performance coach. She has spent over a year studying for this qualification to develop her technical expertise. She has been able to meet up with top level coaches in Scottish Swimming to bring new ideas back to our Club. This already has been a major influence in the Club’s success and will continue to have an effect in the future.
