A Glenorchy legend, Alan McKechnie is considered by many to be the greatest player ever to play for the club. The McKechnies are an (in)famous shinty playing family with brother Greame being a long serving outfield player and keeper for the club, and father John being heavily involved in the club in a variety of roles over the years.
A towering physical presence, in his prime McKechnie was almost the perfect shinty player - skillful, comfortable on both sides, fantastic reading of the game and a born leader on the pitch. Now in his twighlight years, Alan has been a lynchpin as full back for Glenorchy. Currently nursing ankle ligament damage, he has been missed on the field but still provides guidance and encouragment from the sidlines (unless you happen to be a referee, then all you get is abuse!)
