Snow end to it
26 April 2012

The winds in the east and north have continued to top up the snow at high levels, giving a late finish to a broken ski season. With the weather system for the next few days staying similar, the prospects for a late season ski and high level camp seem very good, if your skis haven't been put away in the loft yet. The Edinburgh Club have been active in the last few days, and had good snow high up.

Late snow continues
18 April 2012

Snow is still falling in the hills, and there is skiable snow on the Cairngorm plateau, with Cairngorm Mountain uplift operating on the Ptarmigan bowl, the traverse and M1 (adult day ticket £15), but not Coire Cas. That suggests opportunity for touring across to Macdui, should you think of going up to the Club meet this weekend.

The Return of the Snow
02 April 2012

The traditional 'lambing' snow looks forecast to turn the high hills briefly white again tonight, although it is unlikely to be good enough to ski on except high up, and probably will not last until the forthcoming Easter weekend. Don't get too excited.

Lack of snow continues
19 March 2012

Despite some scattered snow showers on some tops over the weekend, the only skiable snow left are patches on the high tops, such as the Garbh Uisge Mor bowl on Ben Macdui.

Disappearing Snow
13 March 2012

At the weekend, 10/11 March, there was no downhill skiing at Cairngorm and the hills looked more like they woould in May or June. All the lift tracks were incomplete, and even the Ptarmigan tow could not run. There was a ski-MTB 50/50 race on Saturday at the middle part of Coire Cas, on the narrow strip that remained. See pictures in the gallery from the weekend.
