Glasdrumman Notes we 6th December 2015

Congratulations to Connaire Harrison on being awarded the accolades of a Down All Star and Junior Footballer of the year. Great to see such a talented footballer get the recognition that he has earned and deserved.

Congratulations to Katie Smith and the St. Louis Camogie team on winning the Ulster School's title.

The youth group kids from P6 up had a great night Christmas Shopping in Newry on Friday.  The kids were their usual well behaved selves and were a credit to be with. The youth committee would like to thank the volunteers who gave up their time to supervise the kids and make sure everyone enjoyed their night a special word of thanks to John Joe McKay who drove the bus and helped with the supervision of the kids.  Many thanks to the parents who contributed so generously to the hamper for Glasdrumman GAC's Bazaar. So much was donated that the youth group were able to make 2 hampers to give from the Youth Group. Massive thanks must go Geraldine Lowry who once again gave up her time to make the hampers on behalf of the youth group.
There will be no youth club this Friday for any age group.  Keep an eye on the youth groups facebook page for details of upcoming events.

On Saturday the Eire Og U-12s had their end of year trip to Sheepsbridge Family Entertainment Centre for a game of bowling and dinner. It was a competitive game of bowling with the kids showing the mentors how its done! The U-12s had a successful year with the kids enjoying their football and learning and developing their skills every week. The mentors thanked the kids for their hard work all year in training and in matches, a special mention was made of the effort put in during the summer league when the Eire Ogs went through the league unbeaten to end up convincing summer league winners.  A great night out was had by all.

It was the turn of the Glasdrumman U-6s, U-8s and U-10s on Sunday to have their end of year trip to Cocos.  Glasdrumman senior team captain Art McCartan along with influential forward and Down All Star Connaire Harrison came to present the kids with their trophies.  Art had the Junior League Cup and Down Junior Championship Cup with him for the kids to get photos with, this was a real treat!

The mentors thanked the kids for always turning up to training and matches with a good, positive attitude to learning new skills and said that with the amount of talented kids the future of football in Glasdrumman looks bright.

Club chairman Gary McGreevy thanked the kids for their hard work all year and said he was looking forward to seeing them grow into Glasdrumman stars of the future.  He thanked the parents and the mentors for their support all year!

After the dinner and photos it was time for club chairman Gary and senior team captain Art to face their biggest challenge to date when the kids dared them to do the "freefall".  Both took on the challenge much to the delight of the kids!

It was a thoroughly enjoyable day.

This year the motto of Juvenile Football in Glasdrumman was "Play to Learn, Learn to Play".  This motto was followed with great enthusiasm every week in training and in matches.  We have a great team of juvenile coaches and mentors and we thank them for all their hard work in developing our kids: Cathal Rodgers, Paddy Kelly and Bronagh O'Neill U-6 and U-8s.   Vincey Smith, Paul Kelly and Bronagh O'Neill U-10s,  Paul Kelly and Johnny McVeigh U-11s and U-12s, Paddy Brennan U-14s and Paddy Kelly U-16s.  Thank you for your commitment and dedication to our  young people.
