Glasdrumman Notes we 08th November 2015

"Béidh lá eile ag an bPaorach"  We'll live to fight another day. These words will go some way to make up for the fact that our involvement in this year's Scór na Óg finished on Sunday evening at St.Mark's Warrenpoint. Such was the breadth of talent on display in each competition  you could have been forgiven for thinking that the County final had been going on. The Club was represented in four competitions Solo Singing, Recitation, Instrumental Music and Ballad Group  and although not making it to the final each and everyone of our talented performers  made sure that the adjudicators were not going to have it easy when picking the eventual winners in each category.  Aoife, Cara,Ciara, Clodagh Niamh,Peter and Tara did their Club, parish and families proud and after shaking off the disappointment will be all the stronger for next year's competition. As mentors Donna,Joanne and myself could not be more proud. You are all a joy to work with.  We thank you all for the hard work, practice and co operation you showed through out all the competitions and rehearsals. The great camaraderie and team spirit between you all is to be commended. To all your proud parents our deepest gratitude for affording us the privilege of working with your talented young people and for all your co-operation throughout the rehearsal and the constructive comments which you shared with us. To all who came out to support the young people in such great numbers at each venue, it was a great boost and heartwarming to see.  Our thanks also to our Club Chairman Gary McGreevy ,the committee,  our senior players and team manager Emmett Devlin for all their kind words of encouragement   We look forward to seeing you all next year. Glasdromain Abu. We wish all the acts who will represent South Down in the County Final in Banbridge on Sunday 22nd every success.
All eyes and thoughts go to the Athletic Grounds in Armagh next Sunday 15th at 12.45 when for the first time in our history we go into an ULSTER CHAMPIONSHIP semi-final . I'll just repeat that to let it sink in we're in an ULSTER CHAMPIONSHIP semi-final.  The whole area is agog with anticipation  as we go once again into uncharted territory. Our players are being courted for interviews and being nominated in  magazines for players of the week. None of this will be allowed to get in the way of the no fuss determined low key preparation that has been the hallmark of  our build up throughout the league and championships so far, preferring to let performances on the field do the talking for us. Rockcorry from Monaghan will be our opponents and once any team wins a County Championship  they become a force to reckoned with.  So we wish Emmet and all the team every  success on Sunday and hope to see as many as we saw in Pairc Esler and more in the Athletic Grounds in Armagh to get behind our team.
What a busy night the children and young people of Glasdrumman had at youth club on Friday night. The younger group had their first session of "Relax Kids". The kids thoroughly enjoyed it and are looking forward to next weeks class which will be at the later time of 6.30pm.  Remember to take a blanket and a cushion. We must say thank you to our young volunteer Tara whose help was much appreciated.
The older group went to the cinema and had a choice of seeing Hotel Transylvania 2 or Spectre 4K. This was another brilliant night out for the kids and a good time was had by all. Thank you once again to our young volunteer Sarah who kindly gave up her time to help with the supervision of the trip.
Thanks also to John Macs Fish & Chip Shop, Newcastle for the delicious chips afterwards!
Keep Friday December 4th free as this is the night the kids from the second group will have their annual Christmas Shopping Trip. Further details to follow!
This Saturday November 14th the hugely popular GAA Coaching Clinic organised by Steven Poacher will take place in St Columbans, Kilkeel.  The event is open to all coaches of any age level and will commence at 10am sharp on Saturday morning.  We would encourage our coaches to avail of this opportunity which is very good value at £10 per person with all monies going towards developing GAA within the school.
Our thanks to Martina and all the staff in the Halfway House in Annalong for all their hospitality during the quiz on Friday night.  A great night's craic was had by all despite some of the obscure questions  . On the plus side most people now know that Flohspiel is the German for tiddlywinks. Thanks to all who donated raffle prizes and helped out on the night. We wish Colette Burden a speedy recovery. .
