Last Wednesday was the last night of U-6 & U-8 training for the season. We would like to thank all the kids for turning up every week and to the parents for their support. A huge thank you to our 2 young mentors Paddy Kelly and Cathal Rogers for giving up their time every week to coach and train the kids. You always managed to make training fun and enjoyable for them. We wish you both well as you travel to England to continue your university studies. Thank you also to Bronagh for giving up her time each week and helping the kids, without you the training sessions wouldn't have been possible. To Jemma and Katie for always stepping in when needed, thank you. We will be in contact soon with details of an end of season trip for the kids!
U-10 training will continue on a Wednesday evening from 6pm-7.30pm.
Well done to the Eire Óg U16's who put in a massive performance against Burren B in the semi final of the championship last Thursday, the boys were extremely unlucky not to have won the game after both normal time and in extra time but both teams showed exactly what the GAA is all about with their never say die attitude! The game ended a draw with the replay being this Thursday at 7.30 in the Kingdom. This game promises to be a real classic, so we hope to see as many people as possible out supporting the lads in their efforts to make it to the final!
On Saturday we hosted the first of what is hoped to be an annual u-12 tournament. Teams from Aughlisnafin, Annaclone, Dundrum, Liatroim, Longstone and ourselves participated in the group games. These games were keenly contested with some great football skills on show from all the teams. When the group stages were over Aughlisnafin having not lost a game all day were straight into the cup final, their opponents being the winners of Glasdrumman and Annaclone. It was the host club who won that game which made for an interesting Aughlisnafin - Glasdrumman Cup final. This was a brilliant game of football with Aughlisnafin being deserved winners at the final whistle.
The shield final was another nail biting game between Longstone and Liatroim. Both teams were up for this game making it a good match, however, Longstone had just that wee bit more in their locker and were fitting winners of the shield.
We would like to thank all the teams that took part on the day, making it an enjoyable and successful tournament.
A massive thank you to Vincey, Johnny McVeigh, Paul Kelly and Paddy Brennan who helped with the organisation to ensure the day went smoothly, the ladies who provided the refreshments, the umpires, the girls who did the shop, sold totes and helped with the bbq. "Wonder Woman Katie who went from water carrier to medic. Thankyou also to our chairman Gary for his support on the day.
Without our referees the day would not have been possible, a special thank you to Steven O'Hare and Paddy Kelly. Lastly we have to say thank you to Conservation Solutions, whose support of our underage tournaments is so important and much appreciated.
