It was a busy week for the U-10s, first up was a home game against Atticall on Monday night. The last time these two sides met Atticall had it all their own way, this was not going to be the case this time as the Glasdrumman boys and girls showed that their hard work in training is paying off. This was a great game of football, played in the true spirit of the game and the result of a draw was a fair one. Well done everyone!
Next up an amalgamated Eire Og U-10 (P4 & P5) team took part in the Burren Tournament on Saturday and enjoyed a great day of football. From the start the young Eire Ogs looked lively and hungry for the ball. It's great to watch our young players show off their skills and talent, always with a great attitude towards their teammates, their mentors and their opposition. This is how football should be played. To exit the tournament in the quarter final stage speaks volumes as the Eire Ogs are a very young team that have only played together once before. Well done boys and girls! Many thanks to Burren for the opportunity to attend such a well organised and enjoyable tournament for such a good cause.
Another league fixture against neighbours Longstone on Sunday evening was next for the U-10s. The Glasdrumman team were slow to start but found their true form in the 2nd half and were unlucky to lose by a point. It was nice to see so many home support for the next generation of Glasdrumman footballers.
Training on Wednesday from 6pm-7pm.
We have re-arranged our training schedule for the underage teams as Saturday afternoon was proving too difficult for our mentors due to work commitments and underage tournaments taking place on a Saturday. Training will therefore be as follows until further notice: U-6s and U-8s Wednesday 6pm - 7pm U-10s (P5s) Wednesday 6pm - 7pm
We have organised several underage blitzes, tournaments and friendlies for all our teams this season so it is important to attend training on a regular basis.
If you are interested in helping out with any of the underage teams let one of the mentors know as we are constantly looking for more people to get involved. Full child protection training will be provided for all new coaches and mentors.
We have arranged a few friendly games with our neighbours Ballymartin at the Pats Road pitch on Saturday afternoon at 2.30pm. These games will be for all of our underage players from P1 up to P5. Could all players be at Pats Road at 2.15pm. Remember to bring a gumshield!
After a break last week it was a home fixture for the Eire Og U-12s on Sunday morning against Longstone. It was score for score until team captain and influential player Eoin McVeigh came off with an ankle injury 5 minutes before the break. Even though he came back on for the 2nd half the Eire Ogs found it hard to catch up on the ground Longstone had made during this time and it was the visitors who were winners.
Training continues on Wednesday evenings at the quarter road pitch from 6pm until 7.30pm. We are waiting on confirmation as to weather or not our game on Sunday morning is going ahead and this will be confirmed at training on Wednesday evening. Our postponed game against Drumgath will take place on Tuesday 23rd June at 7.30pm. Travel arrangements will be given at training.
No Senior game to comment on this week, but plenty of action with the squad none the less. Declan Fitzpatrick recently retired Ulster and Ireland prop took the reins on Monday night putting the men through their paces. Declan took time out of the training session with to meet the U10 team after their match against Attical. A big thank you to Declan Fitzpatrick and Emmett. Next game is at home on Friday to Teconnacht.
