Airsoft is a combat sport in which player eliminate opponents by hitting them with (6 mm or occasionally 8 mm) plastic BBs (small, spherical balls) fired from guns, which are Replica Imitation Firearm (RIF) or a Two Tone firearm (an RIF that has a at least 50% of the total suface area in bright colour, either green, blue, or red) that can be powered by CO2, Green Gas, spring, or electrically powered gearboxes actuating a piston. 

How to get started:

The first thing you need to do is find a local site click on the links to the left to help. Most sites have there own web pages. 

Cost:

To get started you dont need a lot most site charge a walk on fee or entrance fee which can be between £15 - £25 dependant on site. Then, most site offer hire equipment this is an extra charge ranging from £15 - £25 and include gun, battery, mags, and full face mask, some site may include some ammo and more mags.

 

Ammo: can range from £6 - £10 for 5000 BB.

Equiptment:

You dont need a lot to start with, the first thing to get is good foot ware, either walking boots or ex militray boots something with good ankle support, dependant on the terrain of the site, the last thing you need is to break your ankle on the first time.

Camo:

This depends on taste and possibly your country of origin, as well as the site you play on and the cost. Trousers and jacker/shirt are all you need to get started.

Eye Protection:

Either a full face mask or safety glasses, in the UK everyone under the age of 16 has to wear full mask, anyone over it at the wearer risk, and may invalidate your insurence such you have an injury.

Gloves: if you want to use Pyrotectics you need to wear glove for extra safety, check with the site and local laws as to the use of Pyros, in the UK you have to be over 18 years old.

Extras:

These include items such as webbing, helmets and other items which add to the realism, or personal taste.

Guns:

Then if you really want to get into airsoft you need your own gun there are three groups of gun makers China soft, mid range, and top end. China soft are good to get you started (unless you have the cash to sqalsh) there are many different companies such as, JG (Jing Gong),and AGM, these gun can be sold as seen sometime and you can expect small marks and no warrenty. The power of the these guns may vary a lot, it may state 330 FPS (feet per sound) on the box but it can be up to 420 FPS. Mid range Guns such as CYMA, Well, SRC, Are better constructed and more expensive, Top end Guns, Such as ICS, G&G, Tokyo Marui,  and Inokatsu, these guns are high quitly and high in cost, but are more realible.

MilSim is an abbreviation of Miltiray simulation, and refers to military simulations conducted by civilians for entertainment purposes
