To celebrate Scottish Food Fortnight, some of the Local Food Heroes in Skye and Lochalsh have got together to open their doors, to share with you their great passion for delicious tasting locally produced food and drink.

The featured producers invite you to experience a warm welcome, to see where it is made, find out more about the product and then, to enjoy a taste of the best of local food and drink from Skye and Lochalsh.

It is an honour to be Patron of Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight and something I’m immensely proud of.  The fortnight is a fantastic event in the Scottish calendar and is fundamental in raising the awareness of top quality produce.  Scotland arguably has one of the most diverse and interesting larders in the world.  We are so fortunate to have an enormous variety of excellent produce from fish and shellfish coming out of our crystal clear seas, lochs and rivers to vegetables and soft fruits as well as artisan cows, goats and sheep milk cheeses which all feed on our wonderfully rich landscape.  We are also fortunate enough to be able to illustrate the traditional production methods from some unique bakeries and smokeries.  Raising the awareness of all this is what Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight is all about.  In addition promoting the connection between Scotland’s Garden Scheme and Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight is a personal pleasure for me.  Both are the result of our rich landscape, waters and soils and they are as important as each other to promote to the rest of the world.  I am in no doubt that 2010 will be even more successful than 2009.
