On Sunday morning last 4 of our own took to the plains of Co. Kildare in the first duathlon of 2011. The cool fog was reminiscent of the previous year with the 2010 conditions being replicated. A large field of 225 converged on Punchestown for the event, sponsored by Wheelworx. Indeed with a European Championship Race being held in Limerick this year there were many among the field harbouring aspirations of qualification. The race comprised a 3.5k run, 20k cycle and finally another 3.5k run. First home for AGS on the day wasJason Miley in 27th place, clocking 60:28. Darren McCarthy also put in powerful performance posting 64:54 for 57th. A battle royal took place between Ronseal Grogan and John Griffin. Kevin was only 1 second up on John at T1, but John kept up the resistance and as they he set off on the final run the final outcome hung in the balance. However, Kevin's running strength came to the fore and he ran a fantastic final leg taking 82nd in 68:26 with John finishing in 90th in 69:14.
