On Saturday last January 8th AGS athletics was proudly represented at the SDCC 4 mile XC race. Tymon Park was the venue for the first competitive battle of 2011 BHAA season. Conditions were difficult but thats what is expected running cross country in January. Our sole representative in the ladies race was Bridget Buckley who placed 6th in an ultra competitive race over the sticky 2 mile course.  Bridget acquitted herself in style coming home in 13:12.  In the Men's race 7 hardy souls took to the line among the 266 participants.  We were delighted to have 3 debutant's.  Triathlon supremo Jason Miley led the team home in a fantastic time of 25:11 taking 19th place overall.  A sterling performance and hopefully the first of many in Garda colours.  He was followed by BHAA regular Anthony Malone who placed 37th in 26:17.  Our third man across the line was Denis Ferry, who also made his maiden BHAA voyage covering the 4 miles in 27:23 and securing 54th.  Another debutant was the 'Flying Oarsman', Karl McKenna who cut through the difficult conditions in 27:54 and finished in 62nd.  Brian Brunton is improving steadily and finished in 106th position in a time of 30 minutes even.  Ian Redican was snapped crossing the ticker tape in 121st, rolling out 30:41.  Our ever reliable 'duracell battery', Hugh Reddy finished in 204th, clocking 37:38.  In the team event AGS won Division C, with Anthony, Brian and Ian the scorers.  Due to it being their first day out, Jason, Denis and Karl did not qualify for the team prizes.  A special word of congratulations to our three new musketeers.
