Saturday morning last was the 9th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy. On a day of remembrance throughout the policing world, AGS was represented by 5 members at the latest BHAA offering. Sponsorship of the September 10k in Firhouse was taken over by Grant Thornton this year to the delight of the BHAA Committee after the withdrawal of Pearl Izumi. Intermittent showers and sporadic bursts of intense sunshine, coupled with swirling winds mitigated against fast times being posted. AGS missing some regular stalwarts was graced with the presence of two new faces in 2010, one making his second appearance was Liam O'Neill, the other Brian Brunton, a once familiar figure cutting a dash in AGS colours, has blown the dust off of his running shoes since returning from the wilds of Co. Cavan. To the action, and first to cross the finish line was Liam O'Neill, a proud Meath man (aren't they all) who put in a towering performance, finishing in 40:08, for 48th. Bridget Buckley also produced a sterling performance in trying conditions, placing 102nd overall in 43:59. Indeed Bridget put the hammer down over the final 50 metres ensuring she dipped under the 44 minute mark. Mick "Babyface" Ferry on returning from a holiday in Donegal just failed to break the 45 minute barrier, clocking 45:09. Brian Brunton as previously mentioned decided that his old running shoes still fit and after clipping around the Garda 4m last week has hopefully caught the running bug again. Hugh Reddy, AGS's equivalent of "Father Time"(he never stops going), ran 57:07 for the course. Well done to all.
