On Sunday morning August 29th the annual Dublin City Triathlon sponsored by Gatorade was held predominately in the Phoenix Park. The swim consisted of navigating 1500m of the upper River Liffey, at Islandbridge. Thankfully the water temperature was a kind 17 degrees. The bike stage consisted of a 40km spin through the Phoenix Park incorporating 5 loops which included the infamous Kyber Pass, Chesterfield Ave, Furze Rd, Ordnance Survey Rd and the hills at the rear of the Magazine Fort. The 10krun consisted of a double 5k loop along the grassy trails and tarred paths of the Park. Darren Hughes produced a sterling performance finishing 16th overall in a fantastic time of 2:08:02. Mick Macken was the second member of AGS home in a time of 2:16:40. Mick finished in 42nd overall and was 1st in the MV45 category. Next across the line was Ronan Hartnett in 106th with 2:27:31. Shane Henry also tackled the multi disciplined event finishing 291st in 2:46:25, with Pat Feerick clocking 2:49:11, and in 310th position in the overall classification.
With the St. Pauls Garda Triathlon Championships only a few weeks away, we await the titanic battle that will be waged in Templemore, to earn the right to be 2010 top dog. Some new young turks are enviously eyeing the crown, while the auld dogs will no doubt be pleased with their recent form and expect experience,guile and hard work to win the day.
