IMRA D/W Mt RESCUE RACE
15 August 2010

On a calm summer's evening 6 members of AGS braved the latest IMRA race in the Dublin Mountain peaks overlooking Stackstown Golf Club.  The race is an annual event from which all the proceeds are donated to ensure the invaluable work of The Dublin Wicklow Mountains Rescue, continues.  Those present at the start on August 11th were relieved that the heavy showers which washed across Rathfarnham and Dundrum in the foothills failed to fall further up the mountain, resulting in the avoidance of treacherous conditions underfoot.  At 19:30 approximately 120 began the 6k hike which incorporated a steep climb up from the car park over Ticknock and continued to meander up to Fairy Castle before rounding the cairn and descending back down.  From the gun Anthony Malone found himself trailing the leading group on the arduous climb.  However having reached the summit in 8th place he picked off 6 others on the descent to finish in 2nd overall.  Experienced mountain racer John Roche continues to show good form finishing 30th while Aidan O'Connor fought his way through the field on the descent to finish 61st.  Paul O'Reilly made his maiden trek through an IMRA race and found the early climbing tough but soon settled into the race and finished a very credible 76th.  Fifteen seconds behind Paul and in 77th place overall another IMRA debutant Brian O'Reilly put in a storming finish to hold off the challenge of a determined IMRA regular.
