On Saturday August 7th at the TULFARRIS 10 MILE road race in Blessington, Co. Wicklow Mick Harkin continued his preparation for Gaelforce West 6 with a new 10 mile PB of 1:12:44. Ultra Marathon lover Paul Carroll got back in the groove after some time-out from athletics coming home in 1:26:42 in the same race.
Meanwhile, Barry Malone who has only recently bought a pair of running shoes, ran his second competitive race at the WATERWAYS IRELAND 10k running 46:43 for the Saggart course. This was almost 3 minutes quicker than his debut at the Michael Manning 10k in Dunshaughlin last June, so great strides are obviously been made rapidly.
On Wednesday August 4th, George Maybury put in a solid performance at the Dublin Graded Meet producing 2:29:37 for the 800m. No doubt George's primary concern is the upcoming Masters Championships where he is tipped to medal.
Ronan Hartnett produced a bittersweet performance at the SKERRIES TRIATHLON finishing 14th (sort of) in 2:27:53. The Builder hopped out of the water like a robust salmon and jumped on the rothar only to realise his helmet had gone missing. Not being concerned with potential life threatening hazards on the north county roads he took to the cycle with Sean Kelly like gutso, before producing a typically superfast 10k time. However in line with the Tri Ireland rules he was disqualified afterwards. Pat Feerick also produced a noteworthy performance out in Fingal finishing 57th in 3:04:17.
