On Wednesday August 4th the AGS Team of Hugh Reddy, Denis Shields and Anthony Malone flew the flag in the 17th Castlepollard 5k road race.  A large field of approximately 250 gathered in the village square on a cool summers evening. The course meanders out of  the town before entering the beautiful grounds of Tullynally Castle through an impressive archway.  A circuit within the grounds is completed before the dash back towards the village square.  The field was dominated by a large number of athletes from Mullingar Harriers and North Westmeath AC.  Club colours from Cavan, Meath, Longford, Laois, Louth and Dublin were also proudly worn.  Mullingar dominated the event, the size able purse on offer enticing some of the midlands best middle distance runners out to ply their trade.  AGS performed admirably with Hugh running 26:47, just ahead of him Denis ran a fine time of 22:04 as he continues his preparation for his annual pilgrimage to Longford at the end of August, while Anthony clocked 17:12.
