On Saturday June 26th a large crowd turned out for one of Ireland's most famous 10k road races in the bustling Co. Meath town of Dunshaughlin. On a beautiful summers evening with the sun peeping out from behind fleeting clouds, Garda Athletics was very well represented and some fantastic times were posted by our members. Hugh Reddy ran a solid race as ever, crossing the tape in 55:24. Hugh is credit to our club and a constant competitor at races, where he hoists the flag with pride. Meanwhile, making his 10k debut, Barry Malone ran 49:29. A creditable performance considering Barry has only taking to running a few miles these past few weeks. Undoubtedly, one to watch in October. Declan Monaghan breasted the tape in 43:41 as he begins his preparation for the Dublin Marathon. Mirroring our current economic situation, Damian Gannon is slowly returning to form after injury. He continues to build steadily, was a long way outside his PB, but the signs are positive as Damian came home just outside the magic 40 minutes, clocking 40:13 exactly. A head of Damian was the indomitable Lorraine Manning. Cruelty struck in early May when injury forced Lorraine to withdraw from the Garda Team selected to represent Ireland at the European Police Marathon Championships. Thankfully, Lorraine has shaken of the injury with thoroughbred determination and ran a superb race on Saturday last. From the gun Lorraine nailed her intentions to the mast when she set off at a blistering pace. She placed 2nd lady on the night in 36:24. The first Garda to cross the line on Main Street was Paul Moran who is in scintillating form at the moment. Paul ran a spirited 35:25 on the night placing 28th overall. Well done to all our athletes.
