As Fundraisers we have been similarly involved since the year 2000, and have experience of small, medium and large groups, their problems and opportunities. Fundraising is not getting any easier - for lots of reasons - which is where we come in. Research into currently available funding, then completing what looks like complex application forms with seemingly irrelevant questions, can put off many worthwhile applicants. As part of our fundraising job, we saw the Accounts of many Community Groups, and were appalled at the amounts spent on accountants fees. An Independent Examination (IE) is an alternative to an audit and is a legally acceptable form of external scrutiny of end of year accounts. As an IE is less work than an audit, it should be cheaper, allowing Groups to spend more time and money on good causes.
