The ancient and royal burgh of Forres sits on the shoulder of Cluny Hill, facing out over Findhorn Bay and the Moray Firth. It delights both its inhabitants and visitors. Whether you are looking for sea and sand, woods and hills or history and culture, Forres offers something for everyone.

In particular, the Forres Heritage Trust would like to invite you to visit Nelson's Tower.   You will spot this landmark, standing high on Cluny Hill just south of the town main street, as you approach Forres.  You can learn much about it from our menu page but to get the full benefit you will need to climb the spiral staircase, visit the intermediate rooms and then take advantage of the castellated viewing area to see the magnificent panorama out over Forres, Moray, the Moray Firth and northwards to Caithness and Sutherland.

Nelson's Tower is open for the 2019 season from 2-4 pm, seven days per week, until the end of September.    Entry is by donation.  When the Red Ensign is flying, the tower is open to visitors.    If in doubt, ask at the Falconer Museum next to the Tolbooth.   Even if the tower is closed, there is a lovely view of Findhorn Bay and the Moray Firth from the foot of the tower and the walk through the woods is full of interest.

The Forres Tolbooth is prominent in the town centre and has an important history.  However, as the building is undergoing restoration, it is not currently open for visitors.  It may be possible, if the timing is suitable, to arrange the occasional group visit.  Entry for such a special tour is by donation.   For information on special events being held in the Tolbooth, check for dates on our Latest News page or at the Falconer Museum close by.

Some rooms are available for hire.   See our Room Booking page.
