Folk at the Norton
27 May 2009

Wednesday 27th May is the opening night of Folk at the Norton, a weekly folk club at the Norton Arms, Main Street, Halton Village, Runcorn WA7 2AD.

It replaces Jean Finney`s Tuesday club in  Pit Lane, Widnes, the Ring o Bells which closes on Tuesday 26th May.

The licensees, Aidey and Claire have welcomed the club into the Norton Arms, and wish it much success.   Jean Finney and Stan Hesketh are the organisers, and residents, but it is hoped to acquire more residents to put variety into each week.

The guest on the opening night is John Gregson, known fondly as Grog (bet he got that nickname at school), whose unique style of accomplished guitar playing and mixture of humorous and serious songs will get the club off to a wonderful start.

One month later on the 24th June, the guests are "Trim Rig and a Doxy" a strikingly handsome pair who will raise the roof with their sea songs and shanties.

Every Wednesday the club welcomes singers:  dont be fooled by the name, because song, instrumental, monologues, clog dancing, poetry, are all on the menu with, very likely, things that have not been anticipated. Folkies know what it means.    And you dont have to be a performer, just come along and marvel at the talent that abounds by the ton.

Later in the year, on 30th September the guest is the wonderful cuddly Marie Little, a charming, witty, northern lady who has been likened (in the nicest possible way) to Gracie Fields.  Her powerful rendition of funny and serious songs will run amok through your inner emotions and leave you feeling you have made a new friend before you leave.  If you have seen her before, enough said, if not, you are in for a treat.
