The Friends of Beesley
Dedicated to fine English sporting arms built by
Frederick Beesley and Successor Firms
The Friends of Beesley is a virtual meeting place for all enthusiasts of fine English shotguns and particularly for those made by the firm of Frederick Beesley. The Friends of Beesley was started by William Juch (US) and Tim Wilkes (UK) as an adjunct to writing their book on Frederick Beesley.
Another reason for the Friends of Beesley is whilst the manuscript is in process and then once the book is published, readers with new or additional information come forward. This site aims to be a focal point for them. Naturally, confidentiality will be observed if requested!
The firm F Beesley produced only some 1800 guns and rifles yet the man himself has had a huge influence on the modern sporting gun. Frederick Beesley, the man, worked during the heyday of British gunmaking, active from the 1860s through to the 1920s. He was a prolific inventor with over twenty patents that embody efficient, innovative and elegant engineering. His Best London guns emit skilful beauty in their understated looks, feel and action. They stand comparison to the very best workmanship of guns and rifles from Purdey, Holland & Holland, Woodward or Boss. Many Beesley guns and rifles are in active use today. Others are well cared for in the collections of enthusiasts who understand and respect the quality craftsmanship represented in an F Beesley sporting gun.
Naturally we are inclusive of, supportive and grateful to the subsequent owners of the Beesley style and their clients' guns and rifles to the present day. We welcome them to The Friends of Beesley.
