The programme for the 2009-2010 season will be published in early September 2009.-------------------------------------Bienvenidos!The Edinburgh Spanish Circle was founded in March 1932 with the aim of "providing its members with the opportunity of speaking Spanish and attending lectures, talks, debates, etc. on subjects connected with Spain or Latin America". Our membership represents a wide range of competence in the Spanish language - from beginners to University Graduates, and a number of native speakers - but all have an interest in the life, language and culture of Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries. Meetings are generally of a fairly informal nature, and everyone attending them has a chance to hear good Spanish spoken by visiting speakers, while those who wish can speak Spanish with other members. Last season membership stood at 73. Our meetings are held on Thursday evenings, generally two per month, from October to March, in the English Speaking Union Gallery, 23 Atholl Crescent, EH3 8HQ (basement), about halfway between the West End of Princes Street and Haymarket. Members are offered a varied programme of talks, mostly in Spanish, on a variety of topics relating to Spanish and Latin-American life and culture, as well as occasional social events. The annual subscription is £12 (£10 for native speakers of Spanish and full-time students). Visitors are welcome to attend for the modest fee of £2.00 per meeting and school pupils may attend free of charge. The opening meeting of our 2009-10 season will be on Thursday 15 October at 7.30 pm and will take the form of a social evening with "vino y tapas" and musical entertainment.
