Hundreds Attend Open Meeting
14 November 2012

Thank you to all those you attended our Open Meeting on the 12th November.

In summary -

The points I covered were as follows.

  •  The problem

 - Viable alternative to A96
 - reduced permeability at Wards Road
 - Potential for rat runs eg Linkwood Road
 - The quantity and type of traffic attracted to the road.

  • Alternative Options

 - Junction improvements at existing Wittet Drive entrance.
 - Do not build the bridge - already 8 crossings of Railway in 2 miles Palmers
- Cross to Reiket Lane.
 - Road from Wittet Drive to Edgar Rd already exists.
 - Junction improvements at the Wards 1) improvement to level crossing operation
& 2) roundabout at Edgar Road end.

 - If it's not done traffic on Glen Moray Drive will not inrease.

 - Affordable housing can be accessed from Edgar Road which is a more acceptable traffic profile

  • ED&I 23rd October

 - Motion was to progress CPO

 - Amendment was proposed to wait so that it didn't look forced

 - Amendment was defeated 7-5 so one councillor changing their mind would make it a draw.

 - Cllr Divers said the march was one of the best things he had seen, people of Elgin joining on an issue.

  •  Misc Points

 - Traffic numbers don't tell people what it will feel like

 - Councils' average daily numbers are not peak day nor peak hour

 - See Moray Council Website home page for FAQ sheet, eplanning, and webcasts.

  • Points from the floor

 - Reiket Lane is getting busier.

 - Thornhill layout works but is getting harder to work because of increased traffic.

 - There was a healthy debate about the role of the Community Council and other community bodies.

  •  Other key points

 - Not Wittet Drive problem

 - Everyone must object.

 - We'll take our share of traffic but not the whole lot.

 - Council's communitcation is poor

Finally, we would like to thank the Mansfield for allowing us to use the hotel for the venue.
