Update on Jimmy's Ten

Following the overwhelming success of the Rollercoaster Races at Down Race Course last week the decks have now been cleared in preparation for Jimmy’s Ten Race on Sunday 15th March.  Now in its 11th year and in spite of the credit crunch, this year’s event promises to exceed all previous occasions with a high quality field supplemented by good club and more casual runners in all categories.

Having secured new Primary sponsors in the shape of M.B. McGrady & Co. Chartered Accountants, the promoting East Down Athletic Club are not only able to offer the usual valuable prizes, with £200 each for first male and female and a £50 bonus for a new course record, but all finishers will be eligible for a draw in which they could win a £700 voucher, offered in conjunction with Down Travel, towards the cost of their holiday.

And other tempting spot prizes will be on offer too with stays at the Slieve Donard and Burrendale Hotels and tickets for a Day at the Races at Downpatrick race course available to the lucky winners.  Add this to the renowned post race refreshments for all competitors and a great day out is assured.

Runners of all abilities are welcome, the more so if they have only recently taken up this form of exercise, as the event offers a 2 x 5k Relay category specially for the novice and younger runners and of course Walkers can take part too.

The organisers are urging participants to pre-enter if possible this year to avoid queues and delays on the morning of the race - not only that but it’s cheaper as well and unlike other races you‘ll get a refund if you are unable to run!  Forms are available in Down Leisure Centre, on request from the Club (02844 614235) or for download from the Athletics Northern Ireland or East Down AC websites.
