Kevyn Smith
Kevyn had his first guitar at the age of 13, wrote his first song at 14, and produced and distributed his first self written LP (Love Story) by the time he was 20. His first band (The Shades) played covers - Shadows, Wilson Picket, Sam and Dave - and still meet to do occasional tours of America. Thankfully they don't play music these days, just drift from one music venue to another.
Kevyn has been a member of the Puddin Poke Buskers since 1972. He is also a founding member of Grandaddywaddy, Four Pollox and a Fish, Hopesmith, Revanator and the Strugglers.
Kevyn is happiest working with other musicians, live and in the studio, and curating for East Cleft Street. And just in case you wondered, number 7 East Cleft Street is where he met Angela in January 1971 and began he longest lasting collaboration of all.
Kevyn has just released his new solo cd - The Return of the Fabulous Shades - a collection of guitar instrumentals spanning a range of styles from big band and jazz combos, through the influential guitar instrumental artists of the 1960s (Shadows, Jet Harris & Tony Meehan, Tornados) through to accoustic and roots instrumental artists such as John Fahey, Leo Kottke, Shooglenifty and the Kinnaris Quintet.
