Welcome to the East Church, Cromarty The old parish church in Cromarty, commonly known as the East Church has been in use as a place of worship for at least 500 years, and possibly much longer, but was declared redundant by the Church of Scotland in 1998.The building is now owned by the Scottish Redundant Churches Trust, and is cared for on a day-to-day basis by the Friends of Cromarty East Church. The church is open to visitors every day during daylight hours. It is also used for occasional services, weddings and funerals by arrangement with the local minister. The BBC's Restoration Village programme chose the East Church as one of 3 buildings from Scotland to feature on it's list, along with the Dennis Head lighthouse on North Ronaldsay and Greenlaw Town Hall in Berwickshire. Although the East Church didn't win the competition, it did reach the final and as such it's appearance on the programme has generated a huge amount of interest from the general public.
