October 13th Ebchester/Chopwell

8 miles. A varied walk – fields, woods, a Railway line. Undulating, mostly Good tracks. May see Red   Kites

Meet: Ebchester Station car park. Entrance signposted below the Derwent Walk Inn.

October 27th Cuthberts Cave

7 miles.

A varied walk through woodland, open pasture and moorland with good views on a clear day, no steep hills. A visit to the cave where St Cuthbert used as a retreat to escape from his monks.

Meet:  Park at small National Trust car park at Holburn Grange on the left after the row of cottages, this is signposted off the Chatton to Holburn road; take the B6349 west from Belford and turn left towards Holburn after 3.5 miles. NB. CLOCKS WILL HAVE JUST GONE BACK THE NIGHT BEFORE

November 3rd  Hulne Park, Alnwick

7 miles.

A woodland walk, a few little steep bits in Alnwick’s hidden gem. Panoramic views with deer and stunning Autumn colours.

Meet: Ratten Row. Alnwick. From A1 (N) take B1340 slip road for Alnwick Castle, then B6431 (Eglingham). At roundabout first exit to castle, pass Fusiliers Museum, drive to top entrance of Hulne Park .

November 17th  Warden Circular/lunch at the Boatside Inn

5.5 miles.

Mainly farmland, woodland and riverside paths and country lanes. Some steady ascents and descents with lovely views from Warden Hill Iron Age Hillfort. Option of lunch afterwards at Boatside Inn, Warden. To book a place and obtain menu for pre-ordering email dykehikes@gmail.com by  27th October.                 

Meet:  Boatside Inn Car Park, Warden. Take road signposted to Warden from A69, 2 miles west of Hexham. Pub is just over the bridge.

December 8th  Rothbury Terraces

6 miles.

Climb up Rothbury (and back down!) onto the terraces. Mostly firm underfoot as walking on old

carriage ways, but several short boggy sections. Good views.

Meet:  Rothbury riverside car park next    to River Coquet (south side). 100yds west of main bridge.

December 15th  Watergate & woods

5 miles.

Woods and farmland, mostly good tracks. Undulating.

Meet:  Watergate forest park. From A1 leave at junction 68. Head uphill For Consett, Whickham. At the traffic lights turn right onto B6317, Whickham, then quick left signed Watergate

Country Park.

January 5th  Amble/Hauxley circular

(followed by Fish & Chips)

5.5 miles.

Beach and dune paths, short sections of road, short wooded section, through Hauxley nature reserve then through Fields back to Amble.

January 19th   Newton by the Sea

5.5 miles.

Low level walk, through fields & pasture, dunes and beach. Can be wet underfoot in places.

Meet:  New car park, just east of Newton Hall caravan site & west of High Newton by the Sea. ½ mile

Along the Newton by the Sea road from the B1339/B1340 turnoff.

February 23rd    Corbridge Heritage Trail

9 miles.

From Corbridge up to Aydon Castle On mostly country lanes, farmland and woodlands. After Halton we join the Hadrian’s wall path along farm tracks, returning to Corbridge via country lanes.

Meet:  Corbridge main car park, south of the river.

March 8th    Wall circular/lunch at the Hadrian, Wall

4.5 miles.

Country lanes, farmland and along part of the Hadrian's Wall path to Heavenfield. Panoramic views. Some ups and downs but fairly easy going. Option of lunch afterwards at the Hadrian Hotel, Wall. To book a place please email dykehikes@gmail.com by 16th February

Meet:  Parking layby at north end  of Wall. From A69, just west of Hexham  roundabout  take A6079 signed Bellingham & Kielder. Wall is 3 miles along the road.

March 22nd  Bamburgh and Budle Bay

7.5 miles.

Beach and field footpaths, may be a bit muddy if wet. Bring binoculars for spotting birds at Budle Bay.

Meet:  On the green under the Castle. Park anywhere you can around the village, in the main car park or in one of the beach car parks.
