DYKE HIKES

                              Welcome to our website

'Dyke Hikes' are a group of lesbians who enjoy walking. While the emphasis is on leisure and meeting people, a reasonable degree of fitness is required along with appropriate boots and clothing. Most walks are between 6 and 9 miles long and take place in the countryside across Northumberland and County Durham (with occasional variations). Many walks are followed by a visit to the pub or local cafe. New walk programmes are prepared every 6 months, with one or two walks offered each month. Walks are free although a small contribution now and again from regular walkers helps us with the cost of printing and hosting the website.

In most case you will need your own transport to get to the meeting points although lifts can sometimes be arranged but not guaranteed. No advance booking is required and lesbians visiting the area are welcome to join us.

                                          ABOUT THE WALKS

Walks begin promptly 15 minutes after stated meeting time.
Please make every effort to be on time.
Bring something to eat and drink, waterproof clothing and suitable footwear. Walking poles can be of great benefit particularly when walking on mud and snow.
Walks are only cancelled in very adverse weather. If in doubt contact the walk leader.
People participate at their own risk.
Walks are open to lesbians aged 18 years and over.
Read the walk description and check it is within your capability.  If in doubt contact the walk leader.

Dogs are welcome only on the walks shown. Please keep your dog under control at all times. Specifically, please ensure that your dog does not disturb wildlife nor livestock and that it does not cause a nuisance to other walkers. Dogs are to be kept on leads while we have lunch or snack breaks.

Some walks will be dogs on leads only.

Owners should place their dogs on leads when requested by the leader to do so.

If your dog causes an incident it will be your responsibility.

Dyke Hikes will operate in accordance with current Government guidance and regulations in relation to Covid 19. Although there are currently no legal restrictions please be respectful of other walkers' concerns. Women should not come on a walk if they have any symptoms of Covid 19 or if they are generally feeling unwell. Walkers are responsible for their own conduct in this matter – it is not within the remit of Dyke Hike leaders, who are all volunteers, to enforce this.

Thank You.
