Free Hot Water and Pool Heating - Solar Thermal Systems with Evacuated Tubes

 

This form of renewable energy is generally considered one of the most cost effective means of reducing both your energy bills and your carbon footprint.

Approximately 62% of energy consumed is used for heating hot water and domestic central heating.

Most people have a 200 - 300 litre mains pressure hot water tank, typically fitted with a 2.2 - 3kW heating element which is generally running for 24 hours a day.

We are fortunate to enjoy a high number of 'sunshine hours' in France which is free energy waiting to be captured.

A solar installation is an extremely efficient means by which to reduce both your energy bills and carbon footprint.

Generally speaking, a solar hot water system can provide free hot water for some 80-90% of the year.

 

The key elements of a Solar Hot Water System

Fluid is pumped around the tubes and the solar panel manifold heats this fluid to extremely high temperatures.

Extremely efficient – does not require sunlight, merely daylight, AKA Ultra Violet

 The solar cylinder has two internal coils (heat exchangers) one coil is uses the heat generated by the solar panel and the secondary coil (which does not have to be used) can be heated by another source, for example your normal boiler. The solar cylinder also has an optional immersion heater to boost the water temperature if required.

The System controller senses the difference in temperature between the solar panel circuit and the solar cylinder water temperature.

It switches on the pump if this temperature differential is sufficient to provide useful heat to the solar cylinder.

 

Solar Pool Heating Systems

Evacuated tube solar heating is particularly good for heating swimming pools or in-ground spas.

 Compared to conventional systems that require at least 50% of the pools surface area in panels (South of France) only 20-25% of the pools surface area is required in evacuated tube panels.

 On average 1 x 47mm tube panel will heat around 11m² of pool surface area.
