Wheel Clamper

A mother who left her car was horrified to find it had been clamped while her children were sitting inside.

Victoria Whitmore, a community care nurse from Berkshire, had gone into a doctors' surgery for “two minutes”, leaving her kids in the car while she collected a prescription.

She'd parked in a pub car park on Headley Road in Woodley, Berkshire, believing at the time that where she'd parked wasn't part of the pub's land.

While she was gone, a clamper from Frontline Parking Services moved in and clamped her Vauxhall Astra with her children Joseph, 12 and Zoe, seven, in the car.

On her return Mrs Whitmore found her daughter in tears. The clamper was still there but refused to remove the clamp, claiming he was acting within his rights. He'd also issued a £150 fine.

Mrs Whitmore called the police, but was told the matter was a civil one. She said: “I just cannot believe it. I was so upset and the kids were crying while it was being put on. They didn't know who he was and it scared the life out of them.”

However, Frontline Parking Services Director Martin Sullivan claims the company acted fairly because the car was illegally parked. He said: “The woman in question has parked here before and been clamped but we took it off for her then.

“She was probably about 10 minutes this time and she left her kids in there. Unless there's someone in control of the vehicle we are allowed to clamp it.”
