               Cricket Articles

Anyone wishing to submit an amusing anecdote solely about cricket can email it on:

arthur-123desk@ecussondeux-sports.com

It will be read, edited and published unless unsuitable. Meanwhile, I have added a weekly mini-quiz on cricket for those who like puzzles. It is based on the idea we worked out for the Bracknell News once when the ground was too frozen for football. The Sports editor in chief liked my idea and I have submitted 5 questions on Local sport only generally, one football, one cricket and 3 others covering any other sports. Here we have the world as our oyster and only cricket to cover.

We now have a new Dell computer to run our 25+ websites. After the old Dell ground to a halt, it has taken several weeks to catch up.

        Welcome to Cricket Articles.

My cricketing career, of sorts, started as normal at Junior School and that was adjacent to a local village ground. I retired recently after 32 years standing as Umpire and sporadic occasions as a scorer. I was asked to stand one weekend by the local villagers and started League as club umpire in about 1992. I switched to a neighbouring club for a season after 3 years and then to a Pakistani club from Reading for 4 seasons. In 2000, I stood as club umpire for the 3rd XI at the next village club, in the parish of my birth. After that, I became a panel umpire for the Thames Valley League for 12 seasons.

I joined the Thames Valley League Panel during qualifying with the     A.C.U. & S. I then became a fully qualified scorer in 2002. During that time I was becoming established on the panel, doing Schools finals, County Juniors and some other senior games arranged by a retired R.E.M.E. Major. Added up, 52 since I started scoring, 32 since I started umpiring, 20 seasons of League cricket, 12 on the panel. I retired for a variety of reasons and can now work behind the scenes. Currently, I have posted 10 match reports up to the end of the League season 2013, as a roving reporter on this website.

I have now added a weekly Mini-Quiz on cricket to this website based on the idea that I drummed up for the Bracknell News. That weekly mini-quiz is comprised of 5 questions and answers on Local sport only and has been going since early 2012. There is always one football question and one cricket question, the other 3 are drawn from any of the other sports in South-East & East Berkshire. I have also started simultaneously a similar  mini-quiz on the sibling website for Football. The major differences are

1.) the quiz in the Bracknell News covers all sports and is only very localised.

2). The cricket website quiz is about cricket only and the website is generally global and appears on this website. Press reports are as a roving reporter.

3.) The football website is for a local step 6 level club but the quiz and website is accessible globally. Press for this is as a Club Press Reporter. The website is www.spanglefish.com/finchampsteadfootballclubextra and is my club and I am also a Vice-President.
