Adam (Paul) Baden Clay, was born on 23 December 1975 in Umtali, Rhodesia, the younger son of Nigel (Gerard Arden) Clay and Elaine (Isabel Nora) née Hughes.

Adam has a Master of Adult Education, with a focus on supporting youth leadership for social change, a Post-Graduate Certificate in International and Community Development, a BA (History), an Advanced Diploma in Management, a Diploma in Personnel Administration, and a Certificate in Vocational Instruction. He is also a Coady grad, having completed a certificate in Facilitation and Training Approaches for Community Change (FTACC). Adam was the 2020 recipient of the StFX Outstanding Staff Teaching Award.
In 2023 Adam worked at St Francis Xavier University in Antigonish as Program Teaching Staff member, with key focal areas in adult education, facilitation, and supporting youth leadership for change, and Fellowship co-ordinator at Coady International Institute.
