Chatteris Community Car Scheme is a voluntary transport service for medical and social journeys for people who live in the Chatteris area and have difficulty to use public transport or private car. The scheme is supported by Cambridgeshire County Council and the Care Network.

Journeys are arranged through the co-ordinator and are provided by volunteers using their own cars. These drivers support the community by giving their own time for the door to door service.

HOW DO I BOOK A CAR ?

Please telephone  07944 814 156 ( mobile answerphone, minimum 24 hours before your journey) and our co-ordinator will phone you back within a few hours to confirm your booking.Or you can email at chatteriscarscheme@yahoo.co.uk.

Please give minimum 24 hours notice.We do not operate at weekends or evenings.

WHO CAN USE THE SERVICE ?

People living in Chatteris and the surrounding area who are unable to make journeys by any other means

WHAT TYPE OF JOURNEY CAN YOU MAKE ?

For medical journeys,such as appointments at the surgery,hospital, or dentist, for picking up prescriptions and hospital visiting, and also for social journeys to clubs, activities, visiting relatives  and friends or shopping,. The scheme is particularly aimed at helping those without transport and the elderly to get out and about.

All journeys are at the discretion of the co-ordinator and are dependent upon the nature of the request and availability of drivers

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST ?

Passengers make a contribution of 30p per mile towards the costs of the journey( min £3 per journey).The driver also receives a subsidy from Cambridgeshire County Council per mile.The combined amount aims to cover the running costs,petrol,insurance,road tax,repairs, and general wear and tear of the car.Passengers pay their contribution directly to the driver on the day of the journey.All journeys booked via the co-ordinator are covered by Cambridgeshire County Council insurance, so please do not make any bookings directly with the driver.The drivers give their time on a voluntary basis,so,please treat them with the courtesy and respect that they deserve.

Please note there is a minimum charge of £3.00 for all journeys.
