Welcome to my site - Cat's Fiction Emporium

I'm an independent writer, or indie author, a new breed of author come publisher for the digital age.

This site is GLBT friendly and contains fiction in the gay romance genre. There is no porn or graphic images on this site, however due to the mature subject matter I consider it to be an adult site suitable only for persons aged eighteen and above. Thank you.

My stories focus on M/M relationships the main slant of which is on consensual discipline between loving male partners. It’s difficult to classify or define this kind of fiction. It doesn't quite fit into the category of straightforward M/M erotic romance and nor can it be classified as pure BDSM.

Domestic Discipline Romance might be a fair description with still more sub categories under that umbrella with keywords such as: original character slash, domestic discipline, discipline partnership fiction, romantic spanking fiction, hurt/comfort fiction etc. To be honest I don’t really think it’s necessary or even advisable to attempt to classify and define it too closely, because to do so is to risk confining both writers and readers by binding them with rules and regulations about what’s right and what’s wrong in a story featuring any kind of power exchange.

I don’t personally think there’s a right or wrong way to write this kind of fiction, it all depends on personal taste, need and interpretation of interest. One size definitely doesn’t fit all and that’s how it should be, we’re all individuals and variety is a good thing.

As well as writing under the pen name 'Cat' I also use the name 'Gumbie' to pen period pieces set in the 1950's and 1960's.

In 2008 I decided to take a more professional approach to my writing and entered the world of publishing commercially under the pen name of Fabian Black. It seemed the right thing to do, though I know many people were upset by my decision. I had so many stories unfinished and even those I thought complete were, I realised, more like drafts than completed works. Publishing and reaching new audiences seemed to offer the incentive I needed to extend, polish and properly edit my fiction. Having paperback editions of my stories also allowed me to see 'evidence' of the many, many hours of work I'd put in on my stories.
