' I’m sorry to say that Heads I Go South wasn’t a prize winner on this occasion – although it came very, very close and gave us all a torrid time!
We loved Ester and the way you portrayed her emotional plight, and I personally couldn’t get enough of Ruby and her stubborn good-will. You created two fantastic and multi-dimensional characters, inserted them into an engaging and compelling story, and delivered the whole thing in an original voice. No mean feat in under 1000 words!...'
'I personally loved it (I’ve read it several times now!)'
Synopsis: Heads I Go South
Autumnal rebel, Ruby, is not one to mind her own. Is she not her sister’s keeper? And her young neighbour, Ester, is clearly in trouble - judging by her tragic eyes, Man Trouble. Ruby has been there before; time for her to step in.
As fragile Ester sets out on her journey, she is blissfully unaware of her eccentric neighbour’s wiley ways. Ruby is just a harmless, if annoying, crazy lady….isn’t she?
Can Ruby make Ester see she’s about to make a huge mistake? She’ll need to be persuasive. Or cheat.
