Thank you to Andrew Wight for sharing this interesting information with us discovered during some research on the Cotton Mills whilst preparing a conservation plan for the David Livingstone Centre in Blantyre.
The article contained within a book published by Anthony Cooke in 2010 titled "The Rise and Fall of the Scottish Cotton Industry 1778-1914" highlights a news story from the Glasgow Courier of 1792 which reports on the evictions from Canna of between 400-500 souls seeking work on the mainland.
Whilst the numbers appear at odds with those researched by John Lorne Campbell in his book Canna, it does give a possible date for the clearance and removal of the township of Lag a Bhaile at Coroghon and also the date of construction for the farms of Tarbert and Coroghon.
