Canna Celebrates

On the 25th of January the Canna Local History Group in conjuction with the Island's Gille Brighde Restaurant celebrated the birth of Scotland's Patriot Bard, Robert Burns.

An excellent night of entertainment started with chairwoman Winnie MacKinnon reading the "Selkirk Grace". The haggis then made an entrance led by the whistle playing skills of National Trust Archaeologist, Derek Alexander.

An excellent address to the haggis by Aart Lastdrager of the Gille Brighde saw the haggis opened up for all to enjoy.

Stewart Connor read an "Immortal Memory" . Winnie led all in the singing of  Scots Wha Hae. The night was rounded off with some excellent song and music playing including Derek on the whistle, Dougie the stone dyker on the ukulele and some excellent singing by Amanda of the Gille Brighde who finished the night with a duet with Aart.

The Local History Group would like to thank all in attendance from the oldest resident Nora, Winnie MacKinnon, Geraldine, Murdo, Derek and his partner Ingrid, Dougie the stone dyker and a special thanks to Aart and Amanda of the Gille Brighde for hosting an excellent evening that Burns himself would have been proud to have taken part in.
