The growth in total organic grocery spending in Scotland, over a 12 week period, continues to outperform that in GB.
· Total spending on organic grocery in Scotland was valued at £12.7 million for the 12 weeks ending 15th September 2013 (£178.7 million for GB).
· This represents a year-on-year increase of 9.4% for Scotland, compared to an increase of 9.1% for GB as a whole.
· Since the 12 weeks ending 26th May 2013, Scotland’s year-on-year percentage growth in organic spending has outperformed that of GB in each 12 week ending period.
Total organic grocery spend in Scotland has risen over the year to 15th September 2013
· Over the year to 15th September 2013, organic grocery spending in Scotland amounted to £54.6 million, an increase of 3.3% on the previous year. Spending on organic groceries in GB grew by 1.8% over the same period.
As a share of total grocery expenditure, shoppers in London continue to spend more on organic grocery than those in other GB regions
However, the proportion of grocery spend on organic products in Scotland continues to lag that of most GB regions.
· In the 52 weeks ending 15th September 2013 shoppers in Scotland spent an average 0.5% of total grocery expenditure on organics. This is still below the total GB market average (0.8%), and this share is unchanged from the equivalent period of 2011/12.
