Hi Everyone - some sad news - Bill McGuiness passed away peacefully at home last night. Bill loved his bowls at Caldercraig and was a member for well over 30 years, winning the Club Championship in 1998 at the age of 70. I am sure you will join me in sending our deepest sympathy to Alan, Graeme and the rest of their family at this sad time.
At a recent Board meeting the idea of purchasing new lockers was discussed. The Board agreed this was a good idea but decided to defer the cost until some time in the future.
Following the meeting Margaret Murray offerered to purchase the lockers in memory of her husband, Robert. This is a fantastic gesture by Margaret and the Board thank her for this.
Please advise me if you wish a locker for next season. A refundable key cost of £5 will apply.
Following the announcement yesterday the Club will remain closed until advised otherwise by the Scottish Government

It is with deep regret that I have to advise you that Robert Murray suffered a heart attack and died this morning. Robert was a dedicated and much respected member of the club. The Board held a meeting on Friday 20th March 2020 to discuss the position regarding the coronavirus situation.
Following guidance from various sources the Board have decided to close the club and put it in lockdown until at least the 31st May 2020. The Board will meet in May to review the situation to determine if or when we may be able to open.
To ensure compliance we have removed the keys from the key safe so no access to the club will be possible. If you require access for any reason please contact the club secretary on 07541 086727.
Please note that the only people who will have access to the club during this time will be those carrying out essential maintenance to the green and the club facilities.
We have been advised that at this stage the Airdrie & Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Ladies and Senior leagues have all been cancelled for the season.
At present only about half of the members have paid this year's fees. This will be a difficult time financially for the club and the club treasurer will be in touch regarding this. We of course hope that we can resume bowling at some point in the season and may even be able to proceed with club competitions.
In the meantime please do everything possible to remain safe.

Saturday 28th September
Those of you who could not attend this afternoon's Auld Yins v The Rest have missed an excellent day where everyone enjoyed a game played in the traditional way - everyone was a winner. But crucially, the seniors captain had immense pleasure in presenting the runners-up wooden spoon to the captain of the "Junior" team. We hope to see you all next year when those with a little bit less experience will be trying to wrest the main trophy back from this years champions. ((Note: we won by a whopping margin of 1 shot (across the board) after 16 ends of intense but enjoyable competition))
Tuesday 24th September
Andy Kyle posted the following notice:- "I have just received a notification from Bowls Scotland confirming that I have been successfully re-elected as District Secretary for District 20 for the next 6 years".
Andy added the following comment, "It has been an honour and privilege to serve the district in this manner and I will continue to do so as long as I am able".
Monday 16 September
On Sunday afternoon 15 senior members took part in the annual Dan Turner Memorial Trophy competition. A new attraction this year was that all players knocked out in the first round re-entered into a Consolation competition, and this was a welcome and successful innovation into this afternoon's game. John Taylor, in his first year as a senior, won the Dan Turner Trophy by beating John Campbell in the final and Dave McIntyre beat Fraser Gillespie in the final of the consolation competition. Everyone enjoyed the hospitality and meal supplied by the senior's committee. Senior Convener Andy Kyle thanked the three ladies who attended to all our needs both in the bar and kitchen areas and to all the players who helped make the day a very successful one which was enjoyed by everyone.

The G. Low Nominated Mixed Pairs Competition took place this afternoon. This competition was first played in 1985 and was formerly one of the most enjoyable days in the bowling diary but for the last four years it did not find a place in the calendar of events but it was reintroduced this year and will hopefully remain as one of the favourite mixed events at the club. The winners today were Ian and Shona Chisholm who defeated Bill Andrew and Vi Shaw in the final. My thanks go to the players who enjoyed their participation, the gents who organised the day and to the ladies who rounded off the day with a lovely snack tea. Hope to see you all again at next year's game. 😁George

😢Bad News, I'm afraid. NEWMILNS visitation has been CANCELLED. They have unfortunately an insufficient number of players to make it a viable proposition this year as it clashes with their "September Weekend" holiday break. We'll hopefully have them as our guests next spring/summer.
5 September at 15:54
Well Done Jim Purves. He is our 2019 Senior Champion after beating Ian Chisholm in the Final this afternoon.

It was another successful afternoon for the club when our triple of Derek Phillips, Gavin Chisholm and Graham Gillespie won their match to qualify for the FINAL of the MBA championships, which will be played at Coatbridge green next Saturday (31/8) against Coatbridge Victoria. Keep it up lads, you deserve it, and there's still some room on our Honours Board.
The competitions committee have decided that due to our Gent's Triples participation in the FINAL of the Monklands Association Championships at Coatbridge Old Green on Saturday 31st August (2.00pm) there will be NO CLUB FINALS played at Caldercraig this Saturday.
There is a notice in the club re the presentation night which will take place on Saturday 2nd November 2019 at a cost of ten pounds per person. If you wish to attend please record your name on the form in the club and arrange payment to the treasurer.
16th August: There were mixed fortunes in the final night of the 2019 Lanarkshire League this evening. At home, our Division 4 team won 4-2 in a rain affected match against Blackwood and we think that this was sufficient to win the league and gain promotion to Division 3 but the result will have to be confirmed by the League Secretary. Our 2nd team, playing in Division 15 needed to win their game at Uddingston to avoid relegation but unfortunately they failed after a season of poor results.
It was confirmed today (27th August) by the League Secretary that we have been awarded the League Championship
14th August: Having already won the Airdrie League's Knock-out trophy the gents progressed to the final of the Airdrie & Coatbridge Leagues Challenge Trophy and last night they had success over Dunbeth BC by winning 3-0. This is the first time since 2015 that the club has won this trophy. WELL DONE the players.

A Big Thankyou to our sponsors for the day and to everyone who brought food and helped serve and clean up, to the bar staff and to everyone who took part or came to watch - thanks for the continued support.
