The day was exceptionally warm and bright for the inaugural Over 55s qualifier.  Several RFC players attended with their eye on the prize of playing for Wales in the Veterans Championships in Denmark later this year.  A strong field of 12 teams played including our own Kon Tomczyck and Peter Beresford (playing with Stewart Spencer of Abergavenny), Barbara Vaughan and Shun Price (playing with Karen McLeod of Wenvoe), Pat Daviss (playing with Basil and Dan Murphy of Wheatsheaf/Wenvoe), and Ray Williams (playing with Jim and Linda Hutchinson of Wheatsheaf).

The standard of play was high, and after the morning round robin few teams had secured 3 wins so there was a lot of number crunching to decide who would go through to the knockout Main, and which of the 4 remaining teams would go through to the Plate. 

Barbara and Shun went through to the main where they played a strong Monkstone team and despite a good tussle, they lost in the quarter finals.

Also in the main and going out in the quarter finals was Ray who lost to Jake, Dai and Mike and Pat who lost to Kon, Peter and Stuart.

Kon, Peter and Stuart fought a long hard semi final against Barney, Roger and Jim from Monkstone to eventually win 13-12. 

Kon, Peter and Stuart then went into the final against Graham Attfield, Mike Jones and Tony Smith, eventually being knocked into runners up place.

The plate was won by Tony Jellings, Reg Price and Mike Coleman all from Wenvoe.
