                                      If you make yourself understood,
                                                                you're always speaking well"

Who are we?

We are a self help group dedicated to improving members speaking confidence. The club is one of 120 clubs throughout the country who are part of the Association of Speakers Clubs (ASC).

We are passionate about helping our members develop the skills for speaking up and speaking out. We provide a supportive and friendly environment for improving your confidence.

What do we do?

Regular club meetings start with a brief 'business' session after which two or three members deliver their speeches. Then members are invited to give short 'off the cuff' speeches, which aid the development of speaking skills and build confidence. The speeches are evaluated during the second half of the evening.Evaluation helps speakers to build on their strengths and provides supportive feedback to help improve future speeches.

How do we do it?

By providing a controlled and mutually supportive environment where members can practice their speeches and develop their skills in a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere.
This is achieved through a step-by-step programme that helps build confidence and unlock potential.

Why do people join Speakers Clubs?

The ability to stand up and speak effectively to small or large audiences is a skill that is increasingly required in all walks of life today. Most of us, at some time in our lives, are asked to deliver a speech. It may be a presentation for a job interview, a wedding speech, participating in a debate at college or university, or simply saying a few words to wish a colleague well. In these circumstances we all want to make a good impression but many people suffer from anxiety, palpitations, feel tongue tied, dry mouthed and shakey. Joining a Speaking Club can help you to overcome these feelings, to become an effective speaker and increase confidence in social situations.

How you can make a start?

Come and see for yourself. Don't worry, you won't be expected to stand up and speak on your first visit (unless you have a stong desire to do so). Just come and see what we do, have a chat with other members, then sit back and simply watch, listen and enjoy the evening.
