I had wanted to learn to belly dance ever since seeing it performed on TV a number of years ago. It was quite by chance that I found a new belly dance class at my local leisure centre. That was 5 years ago, and I haven’t looked back since!
I began performing as part of a dance troupe about 2 years ago, and we often performed at local festivals, at the Broadway Theatre in Barking, Kenneth Moore Theatre in Ilford and at Haflas (belly dance parties) across Essex, Kent and London.
Belly dance has become a real passion – or maybe I should say obsession - that seems to be dominating my life. Everything about the art form appeals to me; the music, the movement, the femininity, and the opportunity it gives me to get dressed up in fantastic costumes. Although I dance different styles of belly dance, my real interest lies in traditional Egyptian and Turkish belly dance.
I have taken workshops with some of today’s best known names in belly dance, such as Serena Ramsey, Josephine Wise, Kay Taylor, Khalida, Mirimah Ghaziya to name but a few.
I am so excited about forming Black Lotus Bellydance. It marks a new stage in my belly dance journey. And not only do we have the chance to dance what we want in the way we want, but I also get to dance with some fantastic people. | ![]() |
