Welcome to the Black Isle Guys

Alternative Riding Skills Ensemble

About us:

Black Isle Guys Alternative Riding Skills Ensmble was set up in 2013 by a group of riders on the Black Isle looking to take part in alternative equestrian persuits other than the usual dressage, showjumping and showing.

We are affiliated to British Riding Clubs and as such our members are eligible to takepart in BRC events.

Activities so far have included, side saddle, beach rides and fun rides, mock hunts, tent pegging/skill at arms, cross country, stunt riding, vaulting and horse boarding, drill riding including working with silks and flags,  and even taking part in the BBC's filming of the Battle of Bannockburn.

The aim of our group is to encourage riders to come and try new activities with their horses gaining both new experiences and confidence, and perhaps finding a new discipline to pursue.

We put the emphasis on having fun and enjoying the time spent with our horses and each other, and not taking ourselves too seriously, though at the same time hopefully learning and improving our horse's education. Through the winter months we meet approximately every two weeks or so for a mounted club night at Broomhill RC indoor school, Fortrose. Here we work on various skills and introduce horses to new things. Over the summer months we meet in various locations around the Black Isle and Inverness-shire/Easter Ross for practices, fun and low key competitions.

Non rider members are also welcome and can get involved in ground work with things like introducing horses to lances or flags and silks, or scoring for competitions, or just coming along for the craic.

We also hold social events both for fundraising and so that we can all get together for a chat and some laughs without our horses.
